STAS LAUNCHES ULTRA-MODERN ‘TPX’ AGGREGATES TRAILER AT TIP-EX ‘08
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
STAS introduces its latest, ultra-modern tipping trailer at TIP-Ex ‘08.
Called the TPX, the new trailer is targeted at payload-conscious sand and aggregates hauliers where carrying capacity is the prime operating consideration. With an innovative design and a class-leading specification, TPX answers these operators needs with a vehicle that’s a clear half tonne lighter than the model it replaces.
A highly advanced and individual design, TPX offers a multiplicity of features and benefits. Most immediately noticeable is its smooth, curved body shape created to deliver minimal aerodynamic drag.
In UK specification, TPX has an overall length of 9485mm and an internal volume of 33cu.m / 40cu.yds. Tipping the scales at just 5600kgs ready to work, TPX affords some 650kgs more payload than the previous STAS aggregates trailer, the highly popular TPOP.
Operating as part of a 44 tonnes gcw artic combination, TPX makes a payload of 31 tonnes a realistic possibility.
TPX body features
-------------------------------------
Additional to its dramatic exterior shape, TPX also features a tapered body design where the rear is slightly wider than the front. Inside corner profiles are also curved. When tipping, both these features encourage easier and faster ejection of the load, with less chance of residue sticking in the body.
The floor of TPX is a single piece of 8mm alloy sheet, to quality standard 5383 H34. Exceptionally hard and resistant to abrasion, this material specification is only one grade removed from aluminium used in the aircraft industry.
TPX bodysides and toprails are both manufactured as single piece items to maximise strength and product integrity.
TPX also features a sloping front bulkhead and rear back door. The tailgate opens automatically when tipping, and then re-locks itself when the empty body has been fully lowered.
The standard sheeting system is a manually operated side to side model, with other manual / electric designs also available.
TPX chassis features
-----------------------------------------
With an industry-leading 1600mm width between the outside edges of its all-alloy straightframe chassis, the TPX is both light and ultra-stable. Issues of rigidity and safety are further amplified by the tipping hinge being located through the chassis itself, whilst also being housed in Ertalon bushings for long life, maintenance-free operation.
Axles for TPX in the UK are by Daimler or SAF, and are fitted with disc brakes. The front axle has a lifting device as standard, automatically coming into operation when the trailer is empty.
As for tyres, the standard specification for TPX is the 385/65R22.5 Goodyear Omnitrac MST, a latest generation design optimised for tipping trailers working in both off-road and on-highway operation. Goodyear has long been the preferred tyre fit for STAS, with a solid business relationship between the two companies going back many years.
Aluminium wheels are also standard, as is the Edbro CS18 tipping gear, full LED lighting and a high power reversing light. TPX is also factory painted with two coats of primer followed by two coats of enamel.
TPX customer benefits / market potential
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Designed from the outset to provide outstanding payload capacity along with minimum whole-life operating costs, the STAS TPX offers UK hauliers superb productivity potential over many years of service.
TPX has already been launched in continental Europe, where demand remains exceptionally strong.
Direct comparison tests in Europe have shown that a tractor working with a TPX can save up to 2.5 litres of diesel for every 100kms travelled, this benefit being due entirely to the trailer’s exceptionally aerodynamic shape. With bulk diesel prices now passing the £1 / litre level, the direct savings in operating costs by using TPX can potentially be substantial.
Jon Wilcock, Sales Manager for UK STAS dealer Steadplan of Clitheroe says: “With its highly advanced design, top quality materials and industry-leading components, the TPX genuinely takes tipper trailers into a new era. Operators will welcome a premium product that provides both increased earning power along with reduced cost of ownership.
For sand and aggregates hauliers that really look to the future, TPX has to be their obvious choice.”
